SUMMIT TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Authorities seized 223 dogs, cats, chickens, pigs and other animals that had been living in “inhumane” conditions at a Pennsylvania farm, state troopers said Sunday.
According to the Erie Times-News and WJET, Pennsylvania State Police said they visited the Summit Township farm Saturday after they received a video of the animals’ living conditions. Troopers spoke with the owners of the Edinboro Road property and conducted a walk-through, during which police deemed the conditions “inhumane,” authorities said in a news release. Investigators said they also discovered a burn pile with animal remains, the news outlets reported.
In a Sunday Facebook post, the ANNA Shelter in Erie provided more details about the incident.
After obtaining a search warrant, state police launched an animal cruelty investigation, according to the reports. No one has been charged in connection with the case, WJET reported.
“ALL OF THE ANIMALS are now safe with us and are receiving the necessary medical care ... by our wonderful veterinarians,” the shelter wrote alongside several photos of the seized animals, which included 57 dogs.
