Alabama woman accused in murder of 86-year-old mother

ATHENS, Ala. — An Alabama woman is accused of killing her 86-year-old mother, authorities said.

Tammie Lea Doss, 58, of Athens, was charged with one count of murder in the death of Flora Doss, of Athens, according to Limestone County Sheriff’s Office online booking records.

Athens Police Department Capt. Trevor Harris said a 911 call was placed at around 4 p.m. CDT Friday, requesting medical assistance, The News Courier of Athens reported.

First responders found Tammie Doss and Flora Doss, who shared a home, the newspaper reported. Flora Doss was dead at the scene, according to WHNT.

After an investigation, detectives obtained a warrant for Tammie Doss’ arrest, the television station reported. Details about the older woman’s death, and what made Tammie Doss the prime suspect, were not revealed by authorities, The News Courier reported.

“The investigation remains open,” Harris said in a news release. “Persons with information related to the death of Mrs. Doss are asked to contact Athens Police Department at 256-233-8700.”

Tammie Doss was booked at the Athens Police Department before she was transferred to the Limestone County Detention Center, WAAY reported.
