COTTONWOOD, Ariz. — A medical alarm device proved to be a life-saver for an Arizona woman.
The 75-year-old woman activated her alarm during a home invasion, as a man sexually assaulted her and tried to suffocate her, authorities said.
Humberto Antonio Moreno, 35, of Cottonwood, was charged with six counts of sexual assault, kidnapping, aggravated assault, sexual abuse and burglary, according to arrest records. Moreno remains in custody in the Yavapai County Jail.
When the crews arrived, they found the front door unlocked but barricaded with furniture, The Verde Valley Independent reported.
According to the Cottonwood Police Department, emergency crews responded to a home before 11 a.m. Sunday after receiving an alert from a medical device, KNXV reported.
While going through the home, the crews approached a bedroom door. A man slammed it and allegedly told them that everything was fine, KNXV reported.
Since the responders knew the woman lived alone, they called the police, the television station reported.
Upon arriving, police said they found Moreno partially clothed and lying on top of the woman, attempting to suffocate her, the Independent reported.
According to an arrest report, Moreno was pulled off the victim and handcuffed.
The victim was taken to an area hospital but was later released, KNXV reported.
