GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida, citing “an abundance of caution” because of an increase in positive coronavirus cases, paused its football practice on Tuesday.
Athletic Director Scott Stricklin made the announcment in a statement. The school announced earlier Tuesday that there were five new cases, ESPN reported.
The Gators (2-1) lost 41-38 to Texas A&M (2-1) on a last-second field goal on Saturday.
“Head coach Dan Mullen has been in communication with football players and their parents, and I have had conversations with the Southeastern Conference office, last week’s opponent Texas A&M, and this week’s opponent LSU,” Stricklin said. "These circumstances will be re-evaluated by UF Health and the athletic department’s sports medicine staff Wednesday.
Florida had 21 positive cases after players returned to campus in late May, according to ESPN.
