Hog wild commute: Virginia motorists encounter runaway pigs in interstate traffic

Motorists traveling on Interstate-95 in Virginia’s Spotsylvania and Caroline counties encountered a few unexpected visitors Wednesday afternoon.

An undetermined number of runaway pigs weaved their way between vehicles, startling motorists and disrupting traffic for nearly an hour, The Free Lance-Star reported.

According to Inside NoVA, the meandering visitors forced the closure of several lanes and backed up traffic at one point for at least two miles.

Kelly Hannon, a spokeswoman for the Virginia Department of Transportation, told the Star it was not immediately clear how the pigs made it onto the interstate or if they all made it through the ordeal safely, but both areas were cleared in about 40 minutes.

Motorist Bailie Hayden of Fredericksburg captured the incident on video, which she later posted to Facebook.
