Kansas City police detonate suspicious package near federal courthouse

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police in Kansas City, Missouri, detonated a “suspicious package” on Wednesday near the federal courthouse downtown, authorities said.

According to the Kansas City Police Department, investigators used a “controlled detonation” at 7 p.m. to neutralize the package, WDAF reported.

The detonation came three hours after authorities evacuated the area near the Charles Evans Whittaker Courthouse, The Kansas City Star reported.

“If you heard a loud boom downtown, it was that,” KCPD said in a tweet.

Police have not released any other information about the package, WDAF reported.
