The Polish supermarket chain Žabka won the auction, bidding $125,000 for the medal. Žabka then gave the medal back to Andrejczyk.

The javelin thrower had competed in past games but didn’t win, missing a medal at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games by 2 centimeters.

Andrejczyk also had a shoulder injury in 2017 that needed surgery, forcing her to miss all competitions that year, USA Today reported. She was diagnosed with bone cancer in 2018, ESPN reported.
