MARION COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida woman is behind bars facing a long list of charges after sheriff’s deputies said she tried to run from them.
Melanie Consiglio was wanted on six outstanding warrants when a Marion County sheriff’s deputy noticed her car had failed to stop at stop signs, WPEC reported. The deputy tried to initiate a traffic stop, but Consiglio allegedly refused to stop for several miles.
Deputies used stop sticks and a PIT maneuver to stop the chase, WCJB reported.
Dashboard camera video from the deputy’s cruiser shows Consiglio getting out of the car eventually but doing so while holding a child up against herself. Two dogs also escaped from the woman’s car.
Deputies on scene were able to remove the young child from Consiglio’s arms and take her into custody. She now faces 28 charges, including felony drug possession and child neglect.
Deputies said the child was not hurt.
