Officials said they received a tip that an 8-year-old child was abandoned by a woman at 5 a.m. Monday at a gas station, WPEC reported.

Fifteen minutes after that call, someone spotted the white Chevy Equinox identified in the first call about five miles away from the grocery store. When officers arrived, they saw a woman walking away from the SUV, alone, while a 1-year-old child was locked inside the vehicle, WPEC reported.

Four hours after that first call, they got a call that a woman abandoned a 3-year-old child at a Publix store a few miles away, WPBF reported.

Police arrested the woman who was identified as Miesha Perkins, 36. She has been charged with three counts of child neglect.

The sheriff said Perkins and the children’s father, who was not identified, were driving to Palm Beach from Louisiana. At one point, the father left the trip, but officials did not say why or where it occurred, WPBF reported.
