Thanksgiving Day family altercation in New Orleans leaves 2 dead, 1 wounded

NEW ORLEANS — A Thanksgiving Day stabbing and shooting incident in New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward left two men dead and a woman wounded.

New Orleans police told The Times-Picayune that the killings left Elijah Johnson, 82, dead of multiple stab wounds and 31-year-old DeFranklin Reynolds fatally shot.

Johnson was declared dead at the scene, and Reynolds died later in the day at an area hospital, WWL reported.

According to relatives, Reynolds was Johnson’s stepson, and police told the newspaper that the initial investigation indicates that Reynolds stabbed his 51-year-old mother and Johnson before another relative shot Reynolds.

Relatives at the scene identified the shooter as another stepson of Johnson’s, and police told the Times-Picayune that Johnson’s wife remains in stable condition after being stabbed in the face.

Johnson, a trustee at Philippi Evangelistic Church of God in Christ, was a ceramics specialist who installed tile in homes, the newspaper reported.
