“Hear chimpanzee Maisie laugh for the first time!” the zoo captioned the video on YouTube. “Making a play face and laughing is a natural chimp behavior and a milestone chimp babies typically reach between 12 to 16 weeks.”

The infant female was born Aug. 28 at the Oklahoma City Zoo but was “moved to the Maryland Zoo to be hand-reared and paired with a surrogate chimp mother after her birth mother was unable to care for her properly,” the Baltimore attraction announced in a news release last month. Zoo officials plan to pair the baby with adult chimpanzee Abby, according to the release.
