Woman arrested for allegedly whipping step-niece when she asked for help with online schoolwork

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Police say a Nashville woman whipped her step-niece with a belt when she ask for help with her online assignment.

Monalisa Sherley was charged with child abuse Thursday, according to WKRN.

The arrest warrant stated that Sherley became upset when her niece asked for help with one of her online classes. The aunt allegedly hit the child with a belt and then punched the girl.

Detectives told WKRN that the aunt said she was disciplining the girl despite her parents not giving her permission to do so.

Sherley was released from Metro Nashville Jail on $2,500 bond.
