UPS under fire for tossing boxes of ammunition

MIAMI, Fla. — A Florida homeowner is speaking out after surveillance video caught a UPS driver carelessly tossing a package, causing its contents to spill out.

Kevin Halvorsen came home to find a mess on his sidewalk.

"It was the last thing I expected. We usually have good luck with UPS. Generally, they bring the packages. They set them on the doorstep. This one particular time they just pitch them over the gate," Halvorsen  said. "Two of the boxes were marked heavy, and the other one had a big red fragile sticker on there. All three of them just got chucked over the fence."

In the video, the delivery man doesn't even bother to look back after tossing the packages.

"The gate was unlocked. They could've easily walked them in," Halvorsen said.

Inside one box that the delivery man dropped was handgun ammunition, and the impact scattered cartridges across the brick pavement.

"The safety issue of that is something you really don't want to throw around," says Halvorsen. "And the boxes were clearly marked that they were small arms ammunition."

When shown the video, UPS replied by email, saying, "We're investigating the incident."

Halvorsen was unimpressed.

"It really seams like they just don't care," he said.
