Val Kilmer Movie Could Shoot In Ben Avon

BEN AVON, Pa.,None — Officials in Ben Avon said crews for a Hollywood movie have been scouting locations in the borough.

Residents along Irwin Avenue said crews were looking for a house to shoot scenes for the film "Riddle," starring Val Kilmer.

If plans go ahead, shooting could begin this weekend or next week.

People in the area love the idea of a film being shot in town, saying it would be a boost to the area.

"I think that's cool," said Lou Galante of nearby Emsworth. "I think it'll be nice to see that around here."

Other residents remembered when the 1992 Academy Award-nominated film "Lorenzo's Oil," starring Susan Sarandon and Nick Nolte, was shot in the area.

Scenes for "Riddle" were also shot in Fayette County last month.

The main location there was the Brownsville Library, which served as the fictitious Riddle County Sheriff's Department.

In order to accommodate the filming, the library had to move its entire collection of 20,000 books to another building.

Library Director Meredith Hamilton didn't mind moving the collection back and forth.

"It's absolutely worth it," she said. "We probably won't come down off the ceiling for a week or two."

The movie studio paid Brownsville to use the library and also to help relocate the books.

Kilmer has appeared in dozens of films, including "Top Secret!" "Top Gun," "Willow," "Tombstone," "Heat" and "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang."
