Washington Co. Neighbors Sound Alarm About Loud Cannon Noise

WEST PIKE RUN TOWNSHIP, Pa.,None — Neighbors are sounding the alarm about the loud sound of propane cannons in rural West Pike Run Township.

Neighbors said they have to hear the cannons' noises every 20 minutes.

"It happens at nighttime when you are trying to sleep. No one has gotten any sleep around here. It sounds like a cannon and gunfire. It's ridiculous," said Karen Schade. it's ridiculous

Joe Sustrick rented the cannons from the State Department of Agriculture to scare the crows away from his crops.

"I figured I have lost around $3,200. In other words, in that field there, I estimate 250 bushels of corn, and I can't visualize that crows could eat that much corn in 30 days, but they did," said Sustrick.

Neighbors are willing to compromise with Sustrik, allowing the cannons during the day but asking that they be turned off at night.

Sustrik told Channel 11 that he plans to have the cannons in place for a month.
