Woman battling cancer gets treasured dance with son days before death

DUBLIN, Calif. — A Dublin mom woman battling breast cancer makes one last dream come true before losing her fight.

"It was very special," said Ryan Manning.

Manning's mother, 61-year-old Mary Ann, was three years into her fight against the deadly disease when she attended his September 5th wedding.

"She wanted to get to this wedding," said daughter Kristie Manning. "She didn't care how she had to do it, whether that meant pumping more chemo in her body, whatever."

Not only did Mary Ann make it to the wedding in Dana Point, but she danced with her son at the reception.

"I think that everybody kind of realized what they were seeing and what they were seeing was an incredibly strong woman doing a magnificent thing. A miracle," Ryan said.

Determined to beat the wreckage cancer had wrought in her body, Mary Ann placed her hands on her son's shoulders and the two delicately swayed to "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."

The moment was captured on video.

Just a few months before the wedding, the family says Mary Ann was confined to wheelchair and appeared to be losing her battle with the disease.

"It was incredibly emotional, especially to see her pop out of the wheelchair," said daughter Karie Chamberlain. "For the days leading up to the wedding, we were helping her do everything, even walk. To see her just jump up, it was amazing."

It was an inspirational display of determination and a tearful show of a mother's love.

There wasn't a dry eye in the room.

"There is absolutely no doubt that that woman, a very strong woman, fought incredibly hard to get to that point," said Ryan.

It is a moment the three siblings will treasure.

Just three days after the wedding, on September 8th, their mother would pass away.

Her death leaves them heartbroken, but with a heartwarming memory.

"To have this moment to cherish and to relive through the video, we're so happy," said daughter Kristie Manning. "We're so, so lucky to call her mom."
