PITTSBURGH,None — Cox Media Group's WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh has hired Stephen Cropper as it new Chief Meteorologist, effective July 25.
Cropper has been a popular Pittsburgh TV presence for the past 16 years. In his role, Cropper will work with an excellent team of fellow meteorologists and the most advanced weather forecasting equipment in the market. He will provide weather forecasts Monday through Friday on the 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts on Channel 11, as well as the 10 p.m. newscast done by WPXI for Fox 53.
"Stephen is an excellent meteorologist and someone we've admired for many years. We are thrilled to welcome him and his superb forecasting skills and easy on-air presence to Channel 11," said Ray Carter, CMG Pittsburgh's vice president and general manager.
Cropper holds the highest certification awarded to television meteorologists, the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal. Only the top tier of meteorologists earns this distinction.

We live in one of the most difficult areas in the country to forecast. What's great about this team is that we either grew up here or we've been here long enough to know what makes our region unique," added Cropper.
Cropper begins on July 25 and is expected to make his first on-air in appearance in early August.
