PITTSBURGH — Officials from World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. were in Pittsburgh Monday to announce a multi-year partnership with The V Foundation for Cancer Research to support cancer research nationally through funds raised by Connor’s Cure.

is a fund at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation that was established by WWE officials in honor of 8-year-old fan Connor Michalek, who was a patient at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.

It was shared widely and within days, the WWE responded to Connor’s video.  Just weeks later, Connor met his hero. The pair formed a friendship and bond that carried on, up until the final weeks of Connor’s life.

"I think it's incredible, the ability to reach even further with The V Foundation. There is nothing in my life that I have done that's more important than this,” WWE star Daniel Bryan said.

Michalek battled medulloblastoma, a rare tumor that affects the brain and spinal cord. WPXI-TV Pittsburgh first introduced Connor when he, with the help of his loving parents, posted a video of Connor asking for a chance to meet Bryan.

As a result of the new partnership, funds raised by WWE will support Connor’s Cure through The V Foundation’s grant-making process. In addition, funding will continue to support the research being done at Children’s Hospital.
