CLEVELAND — With the 90th pick in the 3rd round of the NFL draft, the Minnesota Vikings selected decorated Pitt defensive lineman Patrick Jones II.
The Chesapeake, Virginia native was rated the number one defensive end in Virginia by Scout coming out of high school. At Pitt, he was a consensus All-American after the 2020 season, along with his linemate Rashad Weaver – Pitt’s two first All-American duo since 1986.
During the 2020 season, Jones was voted a captain by his teammates and was first team All-ACC. He played in the Reese’s Senior Bowl all-star game.
Pitt selected Jones for the Panther Award, given to the senior student-athletes who have bet promoted Pitt through their athletic achievements. The winners of the Panther Award get their names engraved on the Varsity Walk near the Cathedral of Learning on Pitt’s campus.
Jones got a bachelor’s degree in administration justice at Pitt. He’s now pursuing a second degree in social sciences.
