The Pirates added catching depth in a trade with the Yankees, landing veteran Christian Bethancourt for cash considerations. He’s been assigned to Triple-A Indianapolis and is expected to be on Pittsburgh’s taxi squad when the team is in Los Angeles to play the Dodgers this weekend.
Bethancourt, 34, has played parts of eight seasons in the big leagues, the last of which came in 2024. In 427 career games, the Panama-native owns a .229/.259/.362 batting line with 60 doubles, 35 home runs and 135 RBI.
In 67 games in Triple-A between the Yankees and Cubs organizations this season, Bethancourt has batted .270/.320/.491 with nine doubles, 14 home runs and 45 RBI.
