Steelers release kicker Shaun Suisham, sign running back

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers have released kicker Shaun Suisham, who spent the 2015 season on the injured reserve list, after a failed physical, the team announced Friday.

“Unfortunately Shaun incurred a setback in his recovery from knee surgery that won’t allow him to compete in a timely manner,” Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said in a news release. “Shaun has played a significant role in our success during his time in Pittsburgh. He has been the consummate professional on the field and in our community. We wish (him) and his family all the best in the future.”

Suisham began playing for the Steelers in 2010. He converted 124 of 141 field goal attempts and each of his 173 extra point attempts through the 2014 season, according to the Steelers.

In addition to Suisham’s release from the team, the Steelers announced the signing of running back Brandon Johnson, who was a tryout participant in the Steelers’ 2016 rookie mini-camp. He played for Penn State.

Suisham and his family released the following statement to Channel 11's news partners at TribLIVE, thanking Steelers fans:
