Penguins preparing for Game 1 puck drop Sunday against Islanders

PITTSBURGH — Game 1 of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs between the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders is quickly approaching.

The Penguins play the New York Islanders Sunday on Channel 11 in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Our pregame coverage begins at 11:30 a.m.

The last two seasons, the Penguins have been bounced from the postseason in the first round of the playoffs. All week, they’ve been saying this year is different. After all the team has been through being plagued by injury, they’re excitedly waiting for the puck to drop.

The Penguins are the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Division, meaning they have home-ice advantage in the first round.

“You know, sometimes you have that feeling inside you that this year is a good year, like you have a good, good team. The playoffs brings the best out of everybody and it’s an exciting time of the year to play hockey,” said defenseman Kris Letang.
