PITTSBURGH — Sidney Crosby was selected as the Pittsburgh Penguins’ Most Valuable Player for the 2020-21 season.

This marks Crosby’s ninth Team MVP award, trailing only Mario Lemieux (12) for the most in team history. This is also the Captain’s third Players’ Player Award selection, having won the award previously in 2017-18 and 2018-19.

In his 16th season, Crosby, 33, leads the team with 60 points and 37 assists while adding a team-high tying 23 goals. He is on pace to lead the Pens in scoring for the 11th time in his career.

Crosby has also averaged a point per game or higher for the 16th straight season, trailing only Wayne Gretzky and Gordie Howe for the most seasons with a point per game or higher in league history. Only Gretzky and Crosby started their careers with 16-consecutive point-per-game seasons.
