TOKYO — Athletes and visitors to the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games can look forward to high-tech bathrooms, among other things.
The Japanese government is working to update public bathrooms with toilets that have lots of luxuries to promote advanced cleanliness. Public toilets in Japan have lots of gadgets, including heated seats, lids that open and close automatically, and bowls that deoderize after each use. The toilets even have bidets that allow users to set the water temperature with a button.

Some users are also able to listen to classical music, too.
These features have been standard for tens of millions of Japanese homes since the 1980s.
Toilets are serious business in Japan. Some models cost over $5,000.
