PITTSBURGH — The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank received a big donation on Monday from Pittsburgh Penguin’s captain Sidney Crosby.
He donated 100,000 meals, or 120,000 pounds of food, which will be handed out across the 11 counties the organization serves.

“Sidney is such an incredible person both on and off the ice,” said Lisa Scales, president & CEO of the food bank. “He’s provided great joy to this region during his tenure with the Penguins, and now he is helping us provide food assistance to those who need it most during the COVID-19 crisis.”
The food will be handed out through the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank’s various pantries, drive-up distributions and home delivery service.
The food bank has delivered more than 4.2 million pounds of food since the coronavirus pandemic started. That is a million-pound increase during the same time in 2019.
