PITTSBURGH — After a very stormy start to March, conditions have changed to a complete opposite weather pattern. Snow showers and cold air are expected to remain in place through the end of the work week.

A weak system moving in from the Midwest will keep snow showers in the forecast for Thursday afternoon and evening. Accumulations should be held at a minimum, if at all.
By nightfall, snow totals will have a better chance at adding up. This is also when lake effect weather will kick back in, giving the northern zones a shot at additional snowfall from heavier bands.
If that isn’t enough, yet another system will push into the Northeast overnight. This system is what is known as an Alberta Clipper.
“An Alberta Clipper is a fast moving low pressure system that moves southeast out of Canadian Province of Alberta (southwest Canada) through the Plains, Midwest, and Great Lakes region usually during the winter,” said Severe Weather Team 11 chief meteorologist Stephen Cropper. “This low pressure area is usually accompanied by light snow, strong winds and colder temperatures.”

With this clipper, there won’t be heavy accumulation. Most areas will see a general 1 to 2 inches with a bit more in the Laurel Highlands through Friday.
