TAINAN CITY, TAIWAN — In the aftermath of Typhoon Soudelor we are getting our first looks into the heart of the storm as it made landfall in Taiwan.
Video from a dashboard camera captures a terrifying encounter with a tornado that spawned from the typhoon.
Debris is already flying through the air when a tornado whips out in front of the dashcam.
A white van seemingly disappears in the twister.
A woman then appears on the side of the road. She had been tossed into the scene by violent winds.
The van ended up wedged between trees farther down the road.
In another video, we see a Boeing 747 straining against its tethers at the Taipei airport. The jumbo jet weighs rougly 170 tons empty but the winds are strong enough to lift the jet off the ground. Soudelor is the strongest storm to hit anywhere on the planet this year so far.
