11 Pittsburgh ice cream spots

Are you looking for a way to escape the heat during these hot summer months? You’re in luck because Sunday is National Ice Cream Day, and we’ve created a list of 11 Pittsburgh spots to snag a sweet treat.

From the iconic Page Dairy Mart in South Side to Sarris Candies in Canonsburg, there are plenty of options to choose from in the Pittsburgh area.

A few of these spots were also named among the states best by visitpa.com -- No. 4 being Betsy’s Ice Cream in Mount Lebanon and No. 8 being Kerber’s Dairy in North Huntington.

Don’t forget to enjoy some ice cream this Sunday!

Local farmers’ market opens

The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership announced the return of the Market Square Farmers Market, now set to open downtown Thursday for its 16th season.

The market is open rain or shine Thursdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. through Oct. 29 and will feature live music from local singers.

Drive-in movie

Summertime is the time for drive in movies, and Rivers of Steel is hosting a unique drive-in movie experience at the historic Carrie Blast Furnaces in Rankin that you won’t want to miss.

One weekend a month starting July 24 through November, the “Carrie Carpool Cinema” will have a double feature.

The first event, “Filmed in Pittsburgh,” features films shot in and around the city:

  • July 24 – Doors open at 7:30 p.m. “Flashdance” (R) 9 p.m. | “Out of the Furnace” (R) 10:50 p.m.
  • July 25 – Doors open at 7:30 p.m. “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” (PG-13) 9 p.m. | “Kingpin” (PG-13) 10:50 p.m.

Admission to the Carrie Carpool Cinema is $10 for adults and $7 for kids. Click here to purchase tickets.

Pens 2020 playoffs

Are you ready to finally cheer on the Penguins?

The NHL released its full schedule for the first round exhibition games, and the Pens will be opening the exhibition slate on July 28 against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Then, the Penguins’ schedule for the first round (qualifying round) of the playoffs is as followed:

  • Game 1: Aug. 1 - 8 p.m.
  • Game 2: Aug. 3 - 8 p.m.
  • Game 3: Aug. 5 - 8 p.m.
  • Game 4 (if needed): Aug. 7 - TBD
  • Game 5 (if needed): Aug. 8 - TBD

‘Jeopardy!’ host Alex Trebek update

“Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek said his treatment for pancreatic cancer is “paying off.”

Trebek gave an update on his health in a video in which he announced an upcoming special four-week series that will dig into the show’s archives to look at memorable moments and contestants.
