All Ligonier Valley schools will close Monday for air quality testing.
Ligonier Valley School District Superintendent Matthew Mols announced the closures in a letter Saturday, in response to indoor air quality concerns at its buildings.
Testing will start Monday in all rooms at Ligonier Valley Middle School, Ligonier Valley High School and Laurel Valley Elementary School, Mols says. Students will return once tests have been completed and reviewed, with remediation work as needed.
Also, Mols says R.K. Mellon Elementary School will be closed and undergo “a more thorough remediation process” starting Monday.
Three classrooms in the school were previously found to have relatively high levels of mold.
Follow-up tests showed improved results in all rooms, but some — including those near the original area of concern — didn’t yet meet the indoor air environmentalist’s recommended level, Mols says.
SERVPRO will carry out the “more extensive and intrusive” remediation work.
