Pittsburgh police officer talks with suicidal man for an hour to save his life

PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh police officer talked with a man holding a knife to his neck for an hour in order to keep the man from killing himself early Friday.

Police said Sgt. Lee Myers responded to a call for the suicidal man around 1:30 a.m. Sgt. Myers talked with the man until he trusted the officer enough to drop the knife.

“While the city slept, a life was saved,” police said in a social media post. “In uncertain times, this constant remains: Pittsburgh Police and all First Responders are still out there.”

The man was helped by medics to get help following the incident.
