CALIFORNIA, Pa. — California community members are in disbelief after 18-year-old Karoline Heintz was found murdered in her car along Wood Street near the California borough library.
“Last night I went downstairs, saw lights. I went and asked somebody like, ‘What’s going on?’ They were like, ‘They found a girl in a car; she was bloody - a whole lot going on.’ I don’t know. It’s scary,” Kylie Dennis, a California resident, said.
Dorian McGhee is headed into his Junior year at PennWest California.
“I found out a little bit last night that someone had got murdered but I didn’t know who it was. This morning, I started hearing it was a female. She’s a freshman soccer player,” McGhee said.
Channel 11 was there when state police were at the home of Rachel Moser in Beallsville on Thursday.
She is Royce Moser’s mother. Royce Moser has been charged with homicide. Rachel Moser faces hindering and tampering charges, and this afternoon Channel 11 was there when a car was towed from her home.
State police were also seen at Royce Moser’s father’s home along William Drive in North Strabane collecting bags of evidence.
McGhee says PennWest California students start classes next week.
“It’s kind of crazy that it happens when school is about to be right back in because I know it’s going to be talked about probably the whole semester,” he said.
While the incident took place off campus, the university issued this statement:
“PennWest University is deeply saddened by the tragic death of Karoline Heintz, who was a first-year student at the California campus. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family, friends, and all those affected by this tragedy.”
