Police have been investigating at two homes in Washington County in relation to the death of 18-year-old PennWest California student Karoline Heintz, Channel 11 has learned.
One of the homes is on William Drive in North Strabane Township, and the other is along Route 40 in Beallsville.
At the home in North Strabane Township, our crews on the scene saw detectives bring a bunch of evidence out of the home.
At the Beallsville home, our crews saw a vehicle being towed away.
Pennsylvania State Police at a press conference on Thursday afternoon said that they have charged an 18-year-old and his mom in Heintz’s death.
Royce Moser has been charged with homicide, while his mother, Rachel Moser, is facing hindering and tampering charges.
On Thursday morning at around 12:24 a.m., police were called to the area of the California Public Library at 100 Wood Street in California Borough, and found Heintz dead in a vehicle.
Heintz, of McMurray, was with family earlier in the day and was supposed to be returning to campus housing, according to Washington County Coroner Tim Warco.
When Heintz never checked back in, Warco said family members tracked her vehicle’s location to a parking area on Wood Street, not far from campus, and called 911.
A cause and manner of death have not yet been determined, but state police said they are considering it suspicious. The Washington County Coroner’s Office and Pennsylvania State Police are investigating.
