PITTSBURGH — The City of Pittsburgh has received a $200,000 state grant to fund field upgrades, new water fountains and trail connectivity planning across several eastern neighborhoods.

State Sen. Lindsey Williams secured the funding through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. The grant comes from the state’s Community and Economic Assistance Program.
A portion of the grant will go toward modernizing Farmhouse Field in Highland Park, alongside installing new water fountains across several local neighborhoods.
Pittsburgh Mayor Corey O’Connor thanked state officials for directing resources to municipal outdoor spaces.
“This is another generous state investment in our parks and trails so that our residents, kids and families have high-quality outdoor spaces to enjoy together,” O’Connor said. “I’d like to thank Sen. Williams for her support in bringing this funding to our local communities.”
Sen. Williams, who helped secure the state allocation, emphasized the broad health benefits of accessible public parks and facilities.
“I’m happy to support this investment into the City that will help residents easily get outside and exercise, play and connect with their neighbors,” Williams said. “Community spaces like our parks, trails and sports fields are key to our mental, physical and community health. These improvements will ensure that the next generation of Pittsburgh families can take advantage of these benefits for years to come.”
The remaining portion of the funds will initiate planning for new and expanded trail routes linking eastern Pittsburgh neighborhoods—including Highland Park, Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar, Larimer and Morningside—to the Allegheny Riverfront Trail and the Brilliant Line trail network. Pittsburgh City Councilwoman Deb Gross noted the role of multi-agency cooperation in enhancing access.
“I’d like to thank our partners at the state and city for providing this important funding to invest in our communities’ needs and vision,” Gross said. “This will help us provide new trail connections and infrastructure so that everyone feels welcome and enjoys our parks.”
