Clark Crush Bar hits Pittsburgh-area shelves after recipe rediscovered

PITTSBURGH — Nearly five decades after its inception, an iconic chocolate bar is returning to Pittsburgh.

Wednesday, Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop launched the return of the Clark Crush Bar.

Boyer Candy Co. Inc. stopped producing the chocolate-peanut butter crunch bar years ago, but revamped the original recipe after finding it in the company’s archives.

In the Strip District, one customer stood in line to get six boxes for Halloween.

“We always passed them out on Halloween. It was our thing,” Anne Clark said, adding, “My dad told me to come and try to buy six boxes. ... We’re thrilled. They’ve been hard to source recently.

The new Clark Crush Bars are now on sale at all four Grandpa Joe’s locations in our area: The Strip District, Mount Lebanon, Canonsburg and Beaver.
