PITTSBURGH — Boyer Candy Co. Inc. is re-releasing the Clark Crush Bar, a candy recipe dating back nearly 50 years that was rediscovered in the company’s archives.
The historic recipe offers a variation on the traditional Clark Bar flavor, blending chocolate, peanut butter and pieces of Clark crunch in a unique format. Manufactured in limited quantities, the Crush Bar will be available across regional retail outlets as part of the brand’s revived product line.
Anthony Forgione II serves as CEO of Boyer Candy Co. Inc. Company officials uncovered the recipe while researching the history of the Clark Bar brand, which originated in Pennsylvania in 1917.
“This isn’t a new Clark Bar. It’s a piece of Clark history brought back to life,” Forgione said. “When we discovered this recipe in the archives, we knew we had found something special. Clark has such a deep history in Pennsylvania and generations of people have a connection to this brand. Bringing the Crush Bar back gives fans a chance to experience another chapter of that history.”
For the Pittsburgh launch, Boyer partnered with Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop, located at 2124 Penn Ave. The first 100 customers in line at 9 a.m. Wednesday will receive a free Crush Bar.
“Pittsburgh has an incredible connection to the Clark Bar. You mention Clark Bars around here and people immediately have a memory or a story,” said Christopher J. Beers, founder and CEO of Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop. “That sense of nostalgia is a huge part of what we do at Grandpa Joe’s, so when Boyer approached us about helping bring this piece of Clark history back to Pittsburgh, it was a perfect fit. We’re incredibly excited to be part of it.”
The Crush Bar will be available at Grandpa Joe’s retail locations in the Strip District, Mt. Lebanon, Canonsburg and Beaver.
