DARLINGTON, Pa. — Flames destroyed a garage building and equipment at Brickyard Auto Parts in Darlington early Wednesday morning.
Viewer video sent to Channel 11 shows the heavy smoke coming from the scrap yard just after 8:30 a.m. Firefighters said they were called to the scene around 8 a.m.
“We had approximately 8 to 10 departments here,” Fire Chief Jason Wade said. “We had several departments here that were just for tankers to bring water in.”
Wade said there were no cars in the garage. Right now, it’s unclear how the fire started, but Wade says there is no foul play.
“No, we’re not sure what happened here,” Wade said. “Whatever it was, it grew rapidly and engulfed the building in approximately five minutes.”
This is the second fire at the salvage yard in little over a month.
A fire in November lasted hours and had crews monitoring air quality. The cause of that fire is still unknown.
Some neighbors told Channel 11 at the time they left their homes for a while because of the smell. The township said in November, air quality remained good.
Chief Wade said they didn’t have to worry about that with this fire.
“We had a lot of rubber and oils and stuff burning in the last fire, residual oils that were in the cars that were crushed in the last fire,” he said. “This one wasn’t like that.”
No one was hurt.
