PITTSBURGH — Officials have announced road closures and bus detours for the 2026 Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race and Dollar Bank Junior Great Race scheduled for this weekend.
More than 10,000 participants are expected to take part in weekend events, which include a 5K, a 10K, the Dollar Bank Junior Great Race and several family fun runs.
Road closures will impact traffic across the Downtown, Uptown, Oakland and Squirrel Hill neighborhoods throughout the weekend.
To manage travel disruptions, Pittsburgh Regional Transit will detour dozens of bus routes and operate two temporary shuttle routes on Sunday to maintain transit connections between Downtown, Oakland and Squirrel Hill.
Downtown road closures for Saturday’s Dollar Bank Junior Great Race 1-Mile Family Fun Run will begin at 9 a.m. and remain in effect until 11:30 a.m. Pittsburgh Regional Transit will detour 18 bus routes for approximately 3 hours starting around 9 a.m. on Saturday, after which buses will return to their regular schedules.
On Sunday, road closures near Stanwix Street in Downtown will start at 5:30 a.m., with course closures taking effect at 6:30 a.m. and remaining in place until 11 a.m.
Sunday road closures will occur in staggered geographic zones across the course:

Advance “No Parking” signs will be posted along affected streets and vehicles parked in restricted areas during race hours may be removed for runner safety.
Pittsburgh Regional Transit will detour 41 bus routes starting at the beginning of service on Sunday until approximately 1 p.m. To assist travelers, PRT will run two special bus routes along the East Busway on Sunday morning.
A special 5K route will operate between Gateway Station in Downtown and Bigelow Boulevard at Fifth Avenue in Oakland starting at 6 a.m., while a special 10K route will run between Gateway Station and Forbes Avenue at Beechwood Boulevard in Squirrel Hill starting at 7 a.m.
The Great Race was established as a 10K race in 1977 by the late Pittsburgh Mayor Richard S. Caliguiri. Now in its 49th year, the annual tradition takes place on the last Sunday of September and has attracted nearly half a million participants since its inception, expanding over time to include a 5K run and walk as well as children’s events.
