PITTSBURGH — It’s been a month since a shuttered Mt. Washington Church caught fire. But the building still hasn’t been demolished.

Initially, the demolition permit was supposed to be issued in late July. Pittsburgh councilwoman Kim Salinetro tells Channel 11 the demolition has been held up by the contractor’s insistence that the tear-down happen overnight.
She says the city will not let that happen because neighbors will be trying to sleep. She told us she isn’t sure why they want a nighttime demolition other than to reduce the number of spectators.
Because of this dispute, the permit has not been approved, and a demolition date has not been set.
Channel 11 reached out to the developer and the contractor and has not gotten a response.
