PITTSBURGH — The mother of a woman shot and killed in Pittsburgh’s Strip District is demanding answers more than three weeks after her daughter’s death.
Carolyn Morrison became emotional at times while remembering her daughter, La’Eva Morrison, a mother of two.
“She was the life of the party, you hear me? When I tell you she lit up a room, her smile, everything about Eva. Eva was Eva,” Morrison said.

Police said La’Eva Morrison was shot and killed in the Strip District the evening of Sunday, August 2, 2026, near the intersection of 27th and Liberty Avenue.

Her family and a witness told Channel 11 that before the deadly shooting, La’Eva was involved in a fight with three other people in a parking lot.
At the time, a Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesperson said three people were detained and taken to police headquarters for questioning.
No arrests have been announced.
Carolyn Morrison said she has repeatedly contacted investigators but has received few answers about the case.
“I’m contacting them. I’m asking them questions. They haven’t gave me anything,” Morrison said. “They didn’t call me to tell me that my daughter was shot.”
Morrison is also questioning a family connection with the suspected shooter.
She told Channel 11 the suspected shooter’s father works for Pittsburgh Public Safety.
Sources confirmed to 11 investigates the suspected shooter’s father was hired with the city’s public safety department the week of the shooting.
“That’s a conflict of interest because it was your daughter that unalived my daughter, and I have a problem with that,” Morrison said.
The city does not plan to turn the investigation over to an outside agency, according to sources.
Morrison believes a third-party agency should look into the deadly shooting further.
“County Police can investigate it. Somebody from outside of Pittsburgh can investigate it because, guess what? It ain’t getting swept under the rug,” she said.
As the family continues grieving and searching for answers, a witness who asked not to be identified said the shooting never had to happen.
“You didn’t have to shoot her. We were fighting,” the witness said. “People fight every day. It doesn’t give you the right to shoot and kill someone.”
Channel 11 asked Pittsburgh Public Safety for an update on the case and a spokesperson said: “We do not comment on ongoing investigations.”
