The nation’s leading consumer agency is issuing an official warning about squishy toys and sharing efforts to stop fakes from entering the country.
From glittery animals to dumplings and other foods, squishy toys come in many varieties and can appear harmless, but according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, parents need to be cautious with this super popular kids’ toy.
The agency is issuing a detailed alert.
Part of the warning says to never microwave them, as depicted in viral social media videos.
Even overheating from sunlight or a hot car can cause them to burst.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is warning parents to purchase the toys from reputable retailers to avoid fakes.
Counterfeit squishy toys can more easily break or tear and can contain high levels of lead and other contaminants.
To date, border patrol has reportedly stopped 55 shipments of counterfeit toys at the US border, preventing more than 355,000 dangerous toys from entering your living room.
Federal officials say they’ve sent notices of violations to the companies responsible and will continue surveillance and enforcement.
