Pittsburgh man pleads guilty to trying to kill federal agent in 2024

PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh man pleaded guilty to trying to shoot and kill a federal agent in 2024.

According to information shared by the Department of Justice on Thursday, Drew Gordon, 24, pleaded guilty to attempted murder, assault of a federal agent, drug trafficking and use of a firearm in connection with those crimes.

Gordon was indicted in December 2024 after an investigation involving the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Western Pennsylvania, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement agencies.

Investigators said Gordon fired a total of 18 shots at a DEA agent who was conducting surveillance on a separate drug trafficking investigation in Carrick on Aug. 30, 2024. The agent was not injured, but his vehicle was hit several times.

“Assault on a federal officer is an assault on everyone who takes an oath to protect our communities. This kind of violence directly threatens the safety of our partners, and the FBI will be there every time with every resource possible to hold those responsible accountable for their actions,” FBI Pittsburgh Special Agent in Charge Richard Evanchec said.

Before shooting at the agent, Gordon followed them in his personal vehicle, officials say.

When authorities served a search warrant at Gordon’s home that afternoon, they reported finding over $10,000 in cash, $37,000 worth of fentanyl, crack cocaine and powder cocaine and two guns, including the gun used in the shooting.

“As today’s hearing makes clear, Drew Gordon is a violent and dangerous drug dealer,” United States Attorney Rivetti said. “He not only placed the community at risk through his fentanyl trafficking, but he also attempted to murder a federal agent who happened to travel too close to Gordon’s drug stash. His abhorrent conduct is a reminder not only of the violence associated with drug trafficking, but also of the risks to which state, local, and federal law enforcement officers are exposed on a regular basis as they work to keep our communities safe.”

Gordon’s sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 23. He faces between 20 years and life in prison, a fine of up to $6,000,000, or both.
