PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police have filed charges against Kevin Crowder, the man who detectives said left the scene on September 29 when his SUV collided with a motorcycle, leaving the rider badly hurt in the road.

That collision happened at the intersection of Western Avenue and Fontella Street. Detectives said Crowder was trying to turn onto Fontella around 9:30 p.m. when his SUV collided with a motorcycle, driven by Edwin Krisinsky, heading toward the West End Bridge. Court documents said Krisinsky was unconscious when he was found by witnesses, who ran over to help. Police said Crowder took off in his girlfriend’s Ford Escape.

Neighbors in nearby Manchester were appalled to hear what happened.

“It’s really sad for somebody to just run off like that,” said Kiara Brown, who owns a business along Western Avenue, “especially with all the help that is nearby. It would literally take the hospital two minutes to get here.”

Doorbell camera from homes along Sheffield Street showed two passengers get out of the Explorer moments after the collision. Court documents said police later found the SUV, abandoned along Pennsylvania Avenue.

“It’s scary if something happens like that, but I just think, like, why not be responsible?” Brown said.

Crowder has an extensive criminal record, dating back more than three decades when he was arrested on a robbery charge. Neighbors in nearby Manchester said they hope he’s back behind bars soon.

“It’s awful. They’ll catch him, especially if they got him on surveillance,” said Lester Carroll, who lives nearby.

Police paperwork says Krisinsky was taken to the hospital with a severe concussion, broken ankle, and other injuries. A man who identified himself over the phone as Krisinsky’s brother told Channel Krisinsky is “doing okay.”

Crowder faces several charges, including accident involving death or personal injury and failure to stop and give information/render aid.
