PITTSBURGH — Police have arrested a man accused of breaking into a home in Pittsburgh’s Greenfield neighborhood.
Court records obtained by Channel 11 show police were sent to the 900 block of Greenfield Avenue just after midnight Wednesday for a reported burglary.
Madalyn Durmis told officers that she heard a noise at her front door. She grabbed a shower curtain rod and went downstairs with her housemate.
They reportedly saw a man on the stair landing.
“Around like midnight, we hear this loud thud, like this loud crash,” Durmis told Channel 11 Wednesday. “And when I get out of my bed, I go to see what it is, and there’s a man coming up my steps.”
Durmis said she told the man, “You’re not supposed to be here,” and he yelled, “State trooper, you’re under arrest.” The man then turned and ran out of the home, with Durmis chasing him out onto the street, records say.
Durmis told police that the keys to her father’s vehicle were missing.
Police note that the front door was knocked off its hinges and lying on the floor.
Friday, a woman claiming to be the suspect’s mother contacted police, saying she’d seen footage of the suspect returning to the Greenfield Avenue home early that day.
Police say the suspect — identified as Luke James Miller, 36, of Pittsburgh — was seen in surveillance video fleeing the Greenfield Avenue home directly toward his listed address. He’s also seen wearing the same black tank top in video from both alleged visits to the home.
Durmis and her housemate picked out Miller from a photo lineup, records say.
Online court records show Miller was arrested and placed in the Allegheny County Jail Saturday. He has been denied bail.
Miller faces charges of burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking, impersonating a public servant and criminal mischief.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 9.
