LARSEN ICE SHELF, Antarctica — NASA cameras recently caught an unusual rectangular iceberg floating off the Larsen-C ice shelf in Antarctica. Pictures of the iceberg have gone viral on social media sites.
According to scientists, the iceberg's sharp angles and flat surface are an indication that it had probably recently broken off the ice shelf.

The image was captured on NASA's Icebridge Flight, an airborne survey of the earth's polar ice yielding three-dimensional detailed views of ice sheets, ice shelves and sea ice in both the Arctic and Antarctic.
The flights are conducted over Greenland from March to May and over Antarctica in October to November.
