Amazon Key allows packages to be dropped off inside when you're not home

Amazon says it's the future of home delivery: while you're away, your package gets dropped off, inside your house.

"Amazon Key" is a smart lock and cloud camera.

When your package arrives, you get a notification so you can let the driver inside from your phone.

The system will set you back $249 and will be available to Amazon Prime customers in 37 cities, including Pittsburgh.

The program is being set up to combat an epidemic of stolen packages. In 2016, thieves stole an estimated 11 million packages nationwide.

The service launches in Pittsburgh on Nov. 8.
