PENN HILLS, Pa. — Parents are looking for answers in the Penn Hills School District after the state auditor general reviewed school bus driver credentials and found some glaring problems.

Eugene DePasquale sent out a strong warning to school districts Tuesday after the three-year audit found some drivers were not properly credentialed.

“It’s very scary for their safety and for all of the kids who use the bus,” said a parent.

TRENDING NOW:

The audit found Penn Hills had a bus driver with a felony drug conviction and another driver who had an aggravated assault conviction from 2012-15.

“To say this is insane would be an understatement,” DePasquale said, “and I am sure parents, when they hear about this, are going to be beyond livid that this was taking place.”

According to Penn Hills school leaders in a statement they sent Channel 11, they immediately took action in 2016 against the bus company: "The Board approved to permanently exclude A.J. Myers and Sons, Inc. from bidding on any contracted services directly related to the Penn Hills School District."

“I know school district do have a lot they are dealing with,” said the parent said. “Safety should be at the top of the list.”
