NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. — A Buffalo Township man was charged with assault after he went after a hockey referee following a penalty call at Pittsburgh Ice Arena in New Kensington, according to police.
According to TribLive.com, Jeremy Gregory Gilbert, 43, allegedly repeatedly punched the referee and pushed his head into the ice. The incident happened shortly before midnight Friday.

The victim said he was working as a referee for an adult ice hockey game. Two players collided near the end of the second period, and the referee said he saw Gilbert grab the other player’s stick as he fell onto the ice. The referee called a holding penalty and Gilbert lost his temper, punching him about three times.
Other referees at the game said they witnessed the whole incident. Gilbert was scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 29.
