With online shopping sales surging in the middle of the pandemic and many of us prepping for Christmas and Hanukkah, thieves are taking notice.
The Better Business Bureau and FTC are warning of a rise in fraud cases targeting Amazon and Apple customers.
It happened directly to Channel 11 viewer Glenn Steinmetz from Etna.

He got a call Monday claiming his Amazon account had been compromised and he was facing a more than $700 charge.
Steinmetz noticed the call was coming from a local area code. He said something felt very odd and he hung up immediately.
When Steinmetz checked his Amazon account, he realized there were no additional charges.
He warns everyone to follow their gut instinct and be smarter than the person on the other end of the phone.
“The 412 was kind of a tip off that was that and it just seemed crazy because the 412 number,” Steinmetz said.
The BBB says when in doubt, hang up and don’t give out any information over the phone.
