A Maryland man was so drunk and disruptive at a Fayette County resort that it took two state troopers and three shots from Tasers to subdue him.

Leonard Joseph Frederick Jr., 49, of Hagerstown, Md., is charged with disorderly conduct, public drunkenness, resisting arrest and disarming a law enforcement officer after the incident early Tuesday morning at Nemacolin Woodlands.

TRENDING NOW:

According to a criminal complaint filed by Trooper Jacob Roberts of the Uniontown barracks, he and Trooper Robert Politowski responded to a call from resort staffers about Frederick’s behavior at 1:38 a.m.

They found Frederick stumbling around the property “screaming and yelling” in a heavily intoxicated state while staffers attempted to calm him, according to the complaint. When the troopers arrived, Frederick hid behind a tree.

As they approached, he began to walk away and ignored commands to stop, according to the complaint. The troopers attempted to physically restrain Frederick, which he resisted by “flailing,” the complaint said.

Politowski then stunned Frederick twice with his Taser, according to the complaint. Frederick, who is 5’9 and 145 pounds, continued to resist and Roberts pulled his Taser out as well.

Frederick grabbed Roberts’ weapon, discharging it into the ground, according to the complaint. A second shot hit Frederick in the torso, although he allegedly kept fighting the troopers. At that point, they used “physical strikes” to subdue Frederick and handcuffed him several minutes later.

A Nemacolin Woodlands spokesperson confirmed that Frederick was a guest of the resort and security called state police.

Roberts was taken to Uniontown Hospital for a medical check and subsequently transported to the Fayette County Prison, where he is being held on $50,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is set for May 30.

Police said Frederick still needed to be fingerprinted as of Tuesday afternoon because he was too intoxicated at the time he was brought to the booking center.
