McKEESPORT, Pa. — The McKeesport-Duquesne Bridge was closed Tuesday because of reports of loose barges, emergency dispatchers confirmed.

The loose barges were reported shortly before 11:30 a.m. on the Monongahela River. By 12:30 p.m., officials confirmed the barges were secure.

The bridge remained closed until shortly before 1 p.m.

According to a tweet from Allegheny County, the loose barges reportedly struck the piers. It is unclear how many barges were loose.
